In conjunction with NYU Skirball Center for the Performing ARts, Circus Now is proud to host “Circus Now: International Contemporary Circus Exposure 2015” (CN-ICE), a showcase of US and international circus artistry, in conjunction with the American Performing Arts Presenters Conference (APAP), from January 8-10th, 2015.

As part of the exposure, nine internationally-recognized circus companies will perform excerpts of their full-length works to an audience of theater presenters and producers, and the New York City public. Such showcases are common for dance, theater, and music shows at performing arts conferences, including APAP, and are critical opportunities for artists to be seen by influential producers and agents. CN-ICE will mark time that circus artists can shine in front of such an important audience.

The participants will be curated, with the exception of one company or artist, who will be chosen by the public — the CN Community Choice.

The CN Community Choice is our way of including the larger circus community into the curation process for CN-ICE. We want to discover new companies and new works, while learning more about the kind of work that the community most appreciates.

All companies that fit the eligibility requirements (below) may apply for the Community Choice spot. Five finalists will be selected by a jury comprised of the Circus Now team and select experts from the field. Application deadline is July 28th, Finalists will be announced August 1. After the announcements of the finalists, one week of public voting will determine the winner.

The winner will be given a slot to perform an excerpt in CN-ICE, and a travel and accommodation stipend. They will also be invited to a reception of presenters and given dedicated space to display promotional material at the APAP conference.

For questions, please contact CN Community Director, Erica Rubinstein, at erica@circusnow.org.

Many thanks to all of you who applied; we’ll be emailing and announcing the finalists on August 1st. There will only be one week of voting, so have your campaigning hats ready to go!
